Predicting the Jeopardy Winner
One of my usual rambling, conversational essays or articles or whatever you want to call it…
unedited…don’t complain

I’ve been watching Jeoparday for as long as I can remember. My mom is a Jeopardy wiz and I always sat in awe of how much everybody else knew. I was frustrated and wondered “how come everyone know so much??” and.. “I only know one thing the whole show!” Little did I know that with age and time more knowledge would be acquired…
So one day I was watching Jeopardy and this guy is killing it, I mean just slaying the other two. This guy with blonde hair and big eyes was named Ken Jennings -you may have heard of him. If you’re a fan of Jeopardy then you definitely have as you know he went on to win 70+ games - a record that won’t likely be touched for a long time..

As a watched victory after victory and interview after interview I started to notice something about him…Dude is slightly weird. And by weird I mean odd jokes, penetrating stare, weird expressions - stuff that is subtle enough not to notice to adults but something that younger people would pick up on right away..(By the way nothing wrong with being weird..people call me weird all the time and they’re probably right, and in case you haven’t noticed a ton of weird people are wildy successful - Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Andy Warhol, Ken Jennings.)
Now Ken Jennings being a bit weird by itself is of no consequence. Tons of people are “weird” as I’ve mentioned. But I started to noticed something about the other contestants that made my first observation more relevant…The people that put up the greatest challenge to him seemed to be slightly weird too. You know, the penetrating stare as if they are looking through you or at a particular body part, especially the mouth…the, laughing at stuff that’s not funny, weird sharp movements and the creepiest smile you’ve seen all day. I actually call it the serial killer affect ……as in affectation. People always say serial killers were “just regular guys, nice, good neighbors, just like everybody else.” This is complete B.S…Watch an interview with one of them. For some reason adults (people in their 40’s) are no longer capable of telling who or what is weird. Like the dude that used to sit in the parking lot by himself in his car. Adults I know would say he’s just sitting, he’s nice, he’s this, he’s that.” No. Actually. He’s DEAD bitch! He wasn’t dead when he was sitting in the car, but he ended up killing himself! True story. Weird ass dude.
Anyway, I started to develop my theory from there and it was as follows.. Jeopardy attracts “weird” people because it deals with trivial and obscure knowledge which may be an attraction for them. and.. 2. People who are “weird” are better at Jeopardy because they may be mildly autistic and some autistic people have been known to have incredible mental abilities. (Einstein is thought to have been mildly autistic…and look at him - literally and figuratively.)
So I went about testing my theory. From the opening intros I would see who has the weird smile, weird expressions and such. And then from the interviews I’d choose my winner. What do you think happened? The first night I chose correctly. The next three? Chose the right winner again. I was like “Whaaaaaaaat? Is this true? So I kept guessing and kept getting it right..Niiiiiice. And ever since I’ve been predicting the winner with considerable accuracy.
If you don’t believe my theory; then try it. I told the theory to my Mom and of course she didn’t believe me. I said “watch, I pick the winner.”
After picking the new winner for three straight weeks, which if the average winner stays three days is only like 4 times, she still didn’t believe me. Finally a contestant showed up that was visibly weird, ticks, smiles, laughs and all. She said “So is he going to be the winner?” I said “You tell me.”… And what do you think happened? He won- for several days in fact and won a lot. It was then that she started to think about it. Of course I kept on predicting the winner and it kept on being right.
See for yourself. Watch Jeopardy tomorrow. The dude is slightly creepy, slightly weird and killing people.
Well there are rules and exceptions like being too weird and people who are bet big and gamble with Daily Doubles but its pretty much a solid theory.
Check it out.
